Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a public speech writer. Feminist Frequency is a site where you can find videos and other commentary on the representation of women in pop media and popular. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist, media critic as well as an award-winning feminist for nearly a decade. Feminist Frequency is a site designed to provide education on the role of women in pop culture, is run by Sarkeesian. Destroying stereotypes about women are her main focus. She also strives to raise awareness about problems like harassment and targeted attacks on women who are online. Sarkeesian has a Master's degree in the field of political and social thought from York University. As a public speaker, she is highly sought after and has been a speaker at TEDxWomen and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Interested in issues concerning gender identity and feminism from at an early age, she created her site Feminist Frequency in 2009 when she was still a student at the University. She was launching a series of web videos examining the gender roles in video games and was the target of online bullying. However, this did not discourage her. The experience only strengthened her reputation as a feminist journalist. Her notable contributions to the field of feminists has been acknowledged by many prizes. Anita Sarkeesian is an award awarded media critic, and director of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit which studies the portrayals of women in pop-culture narratives.
